Repository Matcher

The NIAID Data Ecosystem’s Repository Matcher is designed to help researchers identify repositories for depositing and sharing data. It provides a searchable and filterable table of biomedical research repositories, allowing users to find repositories based on research domain, access requirements, and more.

How can the Repository Matcher help me find a place to deposit my data? #

The Repository Matcher provides information about places to deposit datasets, samples, or other resources to share with the research community. When selecting a repository for your data, things to consider include:

  • Whether the repository accepts your data type
  • Whether the repository fits the research domain of your data
  • The repository’s data access requirements
  • Licensing and conditions of use of data in the repository
  • Whether or not you want your data to be findable in the NIAID Data Ecosystem

How do I use the Repository Matcher? #

The Repository Matcher’s searchable table allows you to sort, browse, and filter repository information. You can customize which columns are displayed and pin the table names to keep the Name column visible while scrolling.

Each repository record includes information that may help you evaluate whether it is suitable for your data, including:

  • Name: The repository's official title
  • Description: A detailed summary of the repository
  • Research Domain: Indicates whether the repository is focused on infectious and immune-mediated disease research (IID) or serves a broader scientific community (Generalist); for field definitions see the dictionary under the table
  • Access: Describes how repository content can be accessed, including whether data is open, restricted, closed, or varies by record; for field definitions see the dictionary under the table
  • Health Condition: Diseases or other conditions represented in the repository
  • Pathogen Species: The disease-causing organisms that are the focus of the repository’s data
  • Host Species: Organisms represented in the repository’s data, including humans and/or species of model organisms
  • Measurement Technique: Experimental, analytical, or other data collection methods represented in the repository
  • Topic Category: Standardized scientific topics or subject categories associated with the repository. This field may be assigned through human curation or automated algorithms.
  • Temporal Coverage: The time period represented by the repository’s data
  • License: The link to the repository’s licensing and/or data use policy
  • Type: This field is a Discovery Portal-specific classification that indicates how the resource is organized and displayed in the Portal; for field definitions see the dictionary under the table.

To change the columns that are displayed on the table, click the button “Customize Columns”. In the box that pops up, use the checkboxes to select the columns you want to include. You can search within the pop up to find specific columns. The table automatically updates when you click the checkboxes, so you can click the “X” to close the pop up when you are done customizing your columns.

To keep the Name column visible when side scrolling left or right, click the button “Pin first column” at the top right of the table.

If I deposit data in one of the repositories, will it become discoverable in the NIAID Data Ecosystem? #

If you deposit data into one of the listed repositories, it will be ingested by the NIAID Data Ecosystem; however, it will not appear in the Discovery Portal immediately. Repository records are updated regularly but there may be a delay between data submission, repository processing, and the resource becoming discoverable through the Discovery Portal.
